PHILOSOPHY / APPROACH
At The Outsourced Training Company we believe that people have the ability to develop potential and to change, and that individual growth and self-fulfilment are a continuing lifelong process of development.
Our priority is to target those groups where literacy, numeracy and basic IT difficulties are known to be common and therefore where our help can have the greatest impact. Identifying the one in five adults with skills for life difficulties and bringing them back into learning is critical.
We employ effective mechanisms to identify and assess need in non-threatening, comfortable situations, from which we are able to construct personalised learning plans tailored to suit each individual according to their ability levels and goals.
We then continue to provide learning support in an environment geared towards motivating the individual to achieve National standards, which establish clear definitions for what adults are expected to achieve in order to progress towards literacy and numeracy qualifications. We ensure that all learners:
- Have an action plan which includes short and long term goals
- Receive regular positive feedback
- Have access to a full range of learning techniques
- Receive guidance on progression to other learning opportunities at higher levels
The Outsourced Training Company Skills for Life Team have operated Learning Resources Centres in two of the Dagenham Manufacturing Plants of Ford Motor Company Limited since 1994, providing Basic Skills and Information Technology training for the employees working on the Dagenham Estate. During this time we have seen the long-term benefits of Basic Skills training in increased employee confidence, lower absenteeism and higher productivity.
In February 2005 we began operating a third Learning Resources Centre at the Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) in Dagenham providing learning support to students of Thames Gateway College, local businesses and members of the general public.
